| OB (Osteopathic-based Bodywork): The comfortable way to relieve pain. What is OB? What happens in an OB session? How does OB work? Some conditions for which OB has been effective What is OB® OB is a body work therapy that is very effective in working with chronic stress and pain or problems associated with postural and structural imbalances. It is non-forceful, non-invasive and is done within the client’s range of comfort. The practitioner uses gentle movements and positions of the body to reduce muscle tension, soothe joints, increase flexibility and range of motion, improve circulation and relax the entire body. The result is the experience of increased comfort, and a greater sense of balance and well-being. Because of the gentle nature of this work, it benefits clients of all ages and can be used in both acute and chronic conditions returnWhat happens in an OB session Sessions are generally 1- 2 hours. The work is designed around the client’s individual needs and feedback during the session. The practitioner works with the client to identify their areas of discomfort, tension and pain as well as areas of comfort and ease of movement. Gentle movements and positions are then used to facilitate the body in releasing tension and stress. In order to allow full range of motion for the body, Loose and comfortable clothing is recommended. returnHow does OB work OB uses the homeopathic principles of “like cures like” and “less is more’. The comfortable movements and positions used usually exaggerate the body’s abnormal patterns. This exaggeration assists the body in recognizing and spontaneously relaxing the muscles that were holding the body in discomfort. Thus, a neuro-muscular re-education process occurs. During the positioning, the practitioner stimulates the self-healing response and then supports the individual in a way that does not interfere. Self-healing occurs as the body remembers its natural ability to move away from pain and toward ease and well-being. Therefore, the client can experience what caused pain, tension and stress and what relieves it. Release often continues after the session has ended. Because of the nature of this work, it can assist in relieving chronic pain and help with pain management. Self-care home exercises may be given to continue the release that begins during the session. returnSome conditions for which OB has been effective
